Must and mustn't

You must do something = it is necessary that you do it.
must = 그것을 해야할 필요가 있다.
예문) 해석참고용

• Don't tell anybody what I said. You must keep it a secret.
  누구에게도 내가 말한걸 말하지마. 너는 그 약속을 지켜야 해.
• We haven't got much time. We must hurry.
  우리는 시간이 많이 없다. 우리는 서둘러야 해.

You mustn't do something = it is necessary that you do not do it. (so don't do it)
mustn't = 너는 그것을 하면 안될 필요가 있다.

• You must keep it a secret. You mustn't tell anyone. (= don't tell anyone)
  너는 그 약속을 지켜야한다. 너는 아무에게도 말을 하면 안된다.
• We must be very quiet. We mustn't make any noise.
  우리는 매우 조용히 있어야 한다. 우리는 어떠한 소음도 내면 안된다.

Needn't and don't need to

You needn't do something =  it's not necessary to do it. (but you can if you like)
needn't 그것을 할 필요가 없다.
예문) 해석참고용

• We've got plenty of time. We needn't hurry. (= it is not necessary to hurry)
  우리는 많은 시간이 있다. 서두를 필요가 없다.
• Joe can stay here. He needn't come with us. (= it is not necessary for him to come)
  조는 여기에 있을 수 있다. 그는 우리와 함께 할 필요가 없다.

You can also use don't / doesn't need to.
예문) 해석참고용

• We don't need to hurry.
  우리는 서두를 필요가 없다.

Remember that we say don't need to do / doesn't need to do,
but needn't do. (without to)
need to 로 사용하지만 부정문은 to를 빼고 사용.

Needn't have (done)

Paul and Sue decided to go to a restaurant. They reserved a table.
폴과 수는 한 레스토랑을 가기로 결심했다. 그들은 한자리를 예약했다.
But the restaurant was almost empty. So they needn't have reserved a table.
그러나 그 레스토랑은 거의 비어있었다. 그래서 그들은 자리를 예약할 필요가 없었다.
They needn't have reserved a table =  They reserved a table, but this was not necessary.

Needn't have (done) and didn't need to (do)

He needn't have done something =
he did it, but not we know that it was not necessary.
너는 했지만, 그건 우리가 알다시피 필요가 없었다.

• Why did he get up at 5'o clock? He needn't have got up so early.
  왜 그는 5시에 일어났어? 그는 일찍 일어날 필요가 없었다.
  He could have stayed in bed longer.
  그는 침대에서 뒹굴거렸을 것이다.

He didn't need to do something = 
it was not necessary to do it. It doesn't matter whether he did it or not.
그는 그럴 필요가 없었다. 그건 그가 했는지 안했는지 중요하지 않다.

• He didn't need to get up early, so he didn't.
  그는 일찍 일어날 필요가 없었고 그는 그러지 않았다.
• He didn't need to get up early, but it was a beautiful morning, so he did.
  그는 일찍 일어날 필요가 없었지만 그날은 좋은 아침이었고 그래서 했다.

He didn't have to ... is also possible in these examples.
