Present continuous (I am doing)

형태

평문

주어 + be + 동사(-ing)
I am driving my car.
He is working.
We are doing.

부정문

주어 + be + not + 동사(-ing)
I am not driving my car.
He is not working.
We are not doing.

의문문

Be + 주어 + 동사(-ing)
Am I driving?
Is he working?
Are we doing?


I am doing something = I'm in the middle of doing it;
I've started doing it and I haven't finished.
과거에 시작되었고, 현재 진행 중이며, 아직 끝나지 않은 사건에 사용.

예문) 해석참고용.

• Please don't make so much noise. I'm trying to work. (not I try)
  시끄럽게 하지 말아줘. 일하는 중이야.
• Where's Mark? He's having a shower. (not He has a shower)
  마크 어디있어? 그는 샤워중이야.
• Let's go out now. It isn't raining any more. (not It doesn't rain)
  지금 밖으로 나갑시다. 더 이상 비는 오지 않아요.
• (at a party) Hi, Jane. Are you enjoying the party? (not Do you enjoy)
  안녕 제인, 모임 즐거웠어?
• What's all that noise? What's going on? (=What's happening?)
  저 소리 뭐야? 무슨일이야?

Sometimes the action is not happening at the time of speaking.
말하는 도중에는 하지 않지만, 쭉 하고있는것, 아직 끝나지 않은 사건에 사용.

예문) 해석참고용

• Kate wants to work in Italy, so she's learning Italian.
  케이트는 이탈리아에서 일하길 원했다.
  그래서 그녀는 이탈리아 어를 배우는 중이다.
  (but perhaps she isn't learning Italian at the time of speaking)
• Some friends of mine are building their own house.
  내 친구의 몇명은 그들의 집을 짓는 중이다.
• They hope to finish it next summer.
  그들은 그것이 다음 여름에는 끝나길 희망한다.

You can use the present continuous with today/ this week / this year etc.
(periods around now)

예문) 해석참고용

• A: You're working hard today. (not You work hard today)
  A: 너 오늘은 열심히 일하네?
• B: Yes, I have a lot to do.
  B: 맞아, 일이 많아.
• The company I work for isn't doing so well this year.
  내가 일하는 그 회사의 이번년도 실적이 좋지 않다.
  (The company I work for 까지가 주어)

We use the present continuous when we talk about changes
happening around now, especially with these verbs.
현재를 기준으로 현재까지 해온 행위나 상태가 변하는 사건에 대하여 사용.

예문) 해석참고용

• Is your English getting better? (not Does your English get better)
  영어가 나아지고 있어?
• The population of the world is increasing very fast. (not increases)
  세계의 인구가 매우 빠르게 증가중이다.
• At first I didn't like my job, but I'm beginning to enjoy it now.
  처음에 내일을 좋아하지 않았지만, 지금은 즐기기 시작했어.
